This album is a dedication, meditation and celebration of life lived and the history in a place. After my grandpa passed away in early 2020, and with the COVID pandemic raging, the inspiration came to me to sequester myself in my grandparents’ old house for a week and write this album. The ideas were there, and this was the place and time to bring them to life.

All of the samples were gathered from the house and the surrounding area in Duluth, Minnesota. Situated under towering power lines right next to Interstate 35 where you can hear the constant drone of cars, the property is also a peaceful sanctuary, complete with wondrous wildlife in the backyard, an orchard, and a creek. The house itself seems ancient and almost alive with creaks and groans.

The process was the same each day: go out and collect samples, begin recording, take a walk or go for a bike ride, then finish up arranging or starting a new idea. The album is richly infused with very personal sounds and auditory memories. And I hope it conveys my love for this special place.
